What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture can effectively treat many conditions for which conventional medicine has no effective treatment. Because it involves no chemicals, acupuncture does not cause the side effects associated with medications, nor will it interact with any medications you may be taking.
Scientific research has shown that acupuncture is an effective treatment for many conditions. It has been endorsed by the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health.
Acupuncture treatment is individualized. Treatments are more effective when they take into account a patient’s constitution and health history, rather than simply treating according to disease.
How does Acupuncture Work?
In the philosophy of acupuncture, the fundamental energy that flows throughout the body is called qi. Our qi, as it is known in Chinese medicine, flows along pathways called meridians. Our health can become out of balance if qi becomes deficient or stagnant.
To correct this imbalance, our qualified acupuncturists will insert very fine sterile needles into specific points on the body. These needles influence the flow of qi throughout your body, restoring balance to the flow of energy and improving health.
Acupuncture works by regulating a patient’s qi, supplementing it if the qi is deficient and dispersing it if qi has become stagnant, depending on where the acupuncturist places the needles.
Now, each meridian of qi in the body is connected to specific organs as well as to other meridians. By taking your pulse, looking at your tongue and considering your health history, our qualified acupuncturists will determine which organs or meridians have too much or too little qi and inserts acupuncture needles into specific points to balance the energy in that organ or meridian.
Is Acupuncture Painful?
The needles that are used in acupuncture are much smaller than the needles used to take blood or give shots. People generally feel very relaxed during and after an acupuncture treatment.
There can be an initial sensation of a pin-prick when the needle is first inserted. But since it is a very fine and small needle, that pinprick sensation is much less than the sensation caused by the large needles used, for example, to take blood.
There can also be a strange sensation as the needle point connects to the qi flowing through the meridian point where the needle is inserted. But this sensation is not exactly painful as much as it is a feeling of a small jolt of energy.
However, once the needles are all inserted, the experience can actually be extraordinarily relaxing and peaceful.

What Do Doctors Say?
"In my practice, I recommend colonics when we are helping to improve a person's detoxification process... Colonics improve the liver's ability to cleanse itself. So, we see that colonics help people with allergies, chemical sensitivities, any immune system disfunction, heavy metal toxicity, and, of course, chronic constipation... The clients I've referred to SanaVita have all had great results."
